Edge of Flatland: Twenty Years of Codelivery in Deep Tech Software

Codelivery is to technical leadership what coadjoint is to dual spaces:  tracking the secondary invariances at the boundary of the primary system. For me, the primary system being delivering software.

The theme of this now twenty years old blog is that engineering management is more than pushing tasks out the door. In innovation, engineering management is about always ensuring proper architecting of the cosystems: the DSLs, the team guardrails, the bounded agile constraints, as these keep the chaos of product creation under control. Innovation in software rarely starts with brute-force. Innovation in software starts by carefully aligning what is in and what is out, what is static and what is moving, what is interpreted and what interprets, what is exact and what is approximate, what is computed and what is pre-computed, what is immediate and what is lazy, and so on.

The app below is like a track-ball. One can rotate and select pages. Pages are mapped to the sphere by the four dimensions:

  1. P1: Formalism & Architecture
  2. P2: High-Performance Execution
  3. P3: Process & Human Dynamics
  4. P4: Product & Market Reality

These are colored by regions with the additional four themes.

S1: Abstract
S2: Concrete
S3: Local
S4: Global
P1: Formalism
P2: Execution
P3: Process
P4: Market
